The Bovibase system is an industry wide web-based database for the dairy industry in Fiji. The aim of this system is to allow all key stakeholders in the industry real time access to farmer contact details, milk production and testing, TB and Brucellosis testing results and cattle movement applications.
Key modules of the system include the following:
Farm Information – The farm information screens contain contact details of the farmer, general information on the number of workers, the ownership type, land type information, the types of crops, livestock, equipment, the type of training received, and farm income statistics.
Milk Production Quality and Quantity – Records of the volume (in litres) of milk received per farm per day, and also the tests performed on the milk.
Disease Tracking and Reporting – Records of all TB and Brucellosis tests done on all animals (identified by their ear tag)
Cattle Movements – A record of all applications to move cattle (recorded at the individual animal level, plus the source and destination), including any approvals and certificates issued.
Slaughter (Meatworks) – Record of all animals culled or slaughtered, identified by their ear tags, and details of which parts of the animal are infected (if any)
Surveys – A generic survey system that lets users create questions and responses into an electronic form to enable the capture of survey information, enabling easy collation and reporting of results
Correspondence – Ability to store any type of Word document, Excel sheet, Powerpoint or other file against the farm record
Dashboard – Quick high-level reporting (including graphs) of key factors in the database, such as the percentage of infected farms by district, average milk production per cow by district, the number of farms
Messaging – The ability to add any system contact or user to any number of special interest groups, and then communicate with those groups by sending recipients messages via email, app message, or text.
There are currently 400,000 milk records, 200,000 herd tests and 260,000 milk tests recorded in the system, however the system has been designed to take substantially more data than that over a period of years.
